Mayo College, founded in 1875 by the 6^th Earl of Mayo, stands as one of India’s oldest and most distinguished residential boarding schools. The college’s rich legacy spans nearly 150 years, making it one of the oldest public boarding schools in India. Colonel Walter’s proposal in 1869 laid the foundation for this iconic institution, and Colonel Sir Oliver St John became its first principal. The 2nd Baron Lytton, Viceroy of India, aptly described Mayo College as “India’s Eton” and its students as “India’s Eton boys”.
